The Augustusburg cable-railway of today

The Augustusburg cable-railway is a funicular railway which has connected Erdmannsdorf and the Erzgebirgsbahn railway station Erdmannsdorf-Augustusburg with the town of Augustusburg and Castle Augustusburg for over 95 years. The trip with the cable-railway is a unique experience. In 8 minutes you are taken at a constant speed, drawn by a cable, either uphill or downhill. The Augustusburg cable-railway was opened on 24th June 1911. From 2005 until the summer of 2006 the railway underwent major restoration and is now available to its guests for at least another 95 years. The stops at each end have been kept in their historical condition; a tour of the machine room is possible on request.
